Why You Should Open Your Home Drapes

The process by which sunlight contributes to a happier and healthier home can be clearly explained via a greenhouse analogy. By the way, the greenhouse is used to grow various kinds of plants such as tropical flowers and tomatoes, especially during unusual seasons.  And this is possible because the greenhouse creates a warm and conducive environment relevant for these plants to grow.

But how does the greenhouse work?
Well, visible light, from the sun, which penetrates the greenhouse, is absorbed by the plant and the soil, which in turn, reflect some of the absorbed visible light as infrared heat.

However, the reflected infrared heat is unable to escape the greenhouse and is thus trapped within the greenhouse. It is this reflected, but trapped, infrared heat energy that keeps the greenhouse warm and cozy.

An easily relatable application of the greenhouse effect can be observed inside a warm car, during winter, with a switch-off car heater.

And so, based on the greenhouse concept,  it would make a lot of sense that opening one's home drapes will improve one's mood;  keep one healthier; help one's house plants grow, and save energy.  This is easily understandable when we visualize humans as plants, and the house, with open drapes, as the greenhouse.

The infrared red energy would heat up the house during the winter, hence helping to save energy that would have been required to heat the house during the cold seasons. While the warm conducive home, like what the greenhouse does to the plants, would help foster a healthy environment, which is also supported by the supply of oxygen from the thriving house plants.

The impact of sunlight cannot be overemphasized as recent studies have also indicated that folks get depressed during shorter days, which is during cold seasons with less sunlight.
